Resident Life Staff
Resident Advisor qualifications:
undergraduate or graduate students;
residence life and/or experience in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics);
interest in mentoring bright, motivated high-school juniors and seniors.
RA’s live on the UNC Campus 24 hours, seven days a week and have the opportunity to attend morning classes. Previous dorm life and/or dorm supervising experience is preferred. Previous experience with the FSI program is desirable, with recent experience in working with high school age students.
Responsibilities include (~32 student participants): attending one week of pre-service training; supervising students in the UNC residence hall; coordinating recreational activities; transporting students to/from misc. activities; attending weekly staff meetings and daily informational sessions; attending overnight field trips, industrial visitations (as available) and evening seminars; assisting with other activities as needed (Open House, memory book, newsletter, etc.).
Minimum stipend $1,750 + room and board. FSI Application review begins immediately and will continue until all positions are filled.
Instructors are needed in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) fields. Instructors must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in their field; recent graduates, current teachers, & graduate students of UNC are encouraged to apply. A Master’s degree and/or experience teaching gifted students is preferred. Instructors must be able to work as members of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team. Some weekend and evening work is required.
Responsibilities include (~32 student participants): attending one week of pre-service training; developing an integrated, hands-on science curriculum that incorporates higher order thinking skills, multiple intelligences, & technology; participating in orientation and weekly staff meetings; teaching in classrooms, laboratories, computer labs, on field-trips, and industrial visitations 5 days/week for 6 weeks; advising/mentoring student research; leading one to two overnight weekend field trips; transporting students as needed; assisting with FSI special activities (open house/reunion event, newsletter, memory book, DVD); writing an evaluation on each student advisee (~8); organizing a curriculum notebook of course activities; submitting an FSI teaching experience narrative at conclusion of program.
Salary is dependent on prior experience with program (minimum salary $2,800).
